TSIE (Tokoname City Students' International Exchange Conference Association) was founded in 1995 with the acknowledgement and cooperation of the late Mayor Ishibashi. Its purpose was to prepare for the opening of Centrair (Central Japan International Airport) ten years later, by nurturing resilient, open-minded, and culturally enriched children who would carry Tokoname’s future and contribute to world peace. Over the 30-year period leading up to 2025, TSIE has conducted international exchange programs (both dispatch and hosting), involving a total of 1,323 participants, including elementary and junior high school students as well as guardians. As of 2026, the exchange network spans nine countries: Australia, India, Malaysia, Thailand, the United States, Mexico, China, Costa Rica, and Bangladesh.
